Free business listing sites in Pakistan: which ones still work

Every site that shows your business with the same name, address and phone makes Google surer that you are real, and a few of them bring customers of their own. Many Pakistani directories, though, are dead, paid or spam. This list was checked one site at a time.

Start with the four that feed the maps people use

1. Google Business Profile. Free. It is your listing on Google Maps and Google Search, and it matters more than everything else on this page put together. How to add it: Google Map par dukan kaise dalein.
2. Bing Places for Business. Free, at bingplaces.com. It can copy your details straight from your Google listing, so it takes a few minutes. It puts you on Bing and Bing Maps.
3. Apple Business Connect. Free, at business.apple.com. It puts you on Apple Maps, the maps app every iPhone opens by default. For a business in Pakistan it asked for an official business document or a D-U-N-S number before the listing could go live, so keep your papers ready.
4. Foursquare. Adding your place is free, at business.foursquare.com, and Foursquare's place data is used inside many other apps. Claiming it, so that only you can edit it, cost a one-time $20 when we checked.

Pakistani directories that still take free listings

• YellowPage.pk has a free plan. You sign in with Google, fill in the form, and the listing is reviewed before it appears.
• Rehbar.pk has a free "Add listing" form. An admin approves each listing, so it can take a few days.
• Pakistanies.com has a free form: choose your category and city, and tick the reCAPTCHA to submit.

Skip these

• BusinessList.pk has no free listing. The cheapest plan was a one-time $10, shown as half of $20.
• Tuugo.pk now shows an app download page, not a directory.
• Yalwa.pk and Locanto.pk did not open: their security certificates do not match their names.
• Pakbiz.com is now a finance news site, with no directory.

The one rule: the same details everywhere

Write your details down once and paste them into every site: the name exactly as it is on your board, the same phone number (one you answer, and on WhatsApp), the same address written the same way, and the same website. When one site says "Shop 4" and another "Shop No. 4, Ground Floor", or shows an old number, Google is less sure they are the same business. When something changes, change it everywhere, starting with Google.

What not to do

• Do not pay for "500 directory submissions" packages. Most of those sites are dead or spam, and Google ignores links from them.
• Do not add the same business twice on one site.
• Do not add words like "best" or your city to the business name. It is against Google's rules and can get a listing suspended.
