Photos on your Google listing: sizes, pending, and what works
Photos are often the first thing people look at on a Google listing, before the reviews and before they call. This is what Google accepts, how to add them, and why some don't show, from Google's own help page.
What Google accepts
- Photos: JPG or PNG, between 10 KB and 5 MB. Google recommends 720 × 720 pixels and needs at least 250 × 250. In focus, well lit and without heavy filters: the photo should show what is really there.
- Videos: up to 30 seconds, up to 75 MB, 720p or better.
Adding them
- Find your listing. On a computer, open Google Search or Maps and search for your business name and city.
- Add photos or videos. Click Photos, then Add photos, and choose one or several.
- Set a logo and a cover photo. Click Photos, then Add a logo or Add a cover photo. To replace one, use Change logo or Change cover.
- Remove one if you need to. Click Photos, select it, click Delete and confirm.
Why a photo isn't showing
- The listing isn't verified yet. Photos show on Google only after verification: see verification, step by step.
- Pending: it is still uploading or being processed. Google says photos can take 24 to 48 hours to show.
- Not approved: it broke Google's photo policies, so it won't show.
- You can't find it: check it isn't a duplicate of one already there, then upload it again.
- Your cover photo was replaced: if it is low quality, or other sources suggest a better picture, Google may show a customer's photo instead.
- The logo doesn't appear: fill in the name, a street address, the categories, the phone number and the opening hours.
What works
- The outside, with your signboard, so people recognise the place when they arrive. Google says an exterior photo helps with exactly that.
- The inside, your products or dishes, your work: photos you took yourself, never pictures from the internet.
- New ones every month, so the listing looks alive. The Google Maps checklist covers the rest.
Google's own help page: manage your Business Profile photos and videos.
