Your Google listing, set up properly and kept that way.

Before anybody visits your website, they see your Google listing — on Maps, in search, when they ask for "near me". It is where they read your hours, look at your photos, check your prices and tap to call. A listing nobody looks after drifts: the pin ends up in the wrong place, the hours go stale, the menu is missing, and the only photos are the ones customers happened to take. This puts it right, and keeps it right.

Who it is for: Any business with a place customers come to or call: restaurants, shops, salons, clinics, halls, workshops. You do not need a website for this — and if you have one, the listing sends people to it.

Done for a real restaurant

Jik Jik Chinese in Islamabad could not edit their own listing — it sat on an email nobody could open. Ownership was requested back from Google from the restaurant's own Gmail and granted three days later. Then the whole menu — 104 dishes in 16 sections, with their prices — was typed into their Google listing, so people who find them on Maps see the real menu and prices, and the listing's website and pick-up buttons go to the restaurant's own site. Common questions

Do I need a website for this?

No. The listing is a service on its own. If you do have a website, the listing is one of the main ways people will find it.

Who owns the listing?

You do. Sitey is added as a manager on your profile. You can see everything that is changed and remove the access whenever you want.

I've lost access to my own listing. Can you get it back?

Often, yes. Ownership is requested from Google, from your own email, and Google decides — nobody can promise the result. For Jik Jik Chinese it took three days. Once it is back, it is yours, on your email.

I don't have a listing yet. Can you make one?

Yes. Google then verifies it with the owner — by a video of the place, a phone call or a postcard, whichever it asks for — so that one step needs you.

Will this get me to number one on Google?

No, and do not believe anyone who promises it. A complete, correct, active listing gives Google every reason to show you; Google decides the ranking.

Do you buy reviews?

Never. Bought or fake reviews break Google's rules and can get a listing suspended. You get a proper link to send happy customers, and that is all.
